SCAM WARNING: We hear stories every day from regular consumers and businesses that are unfortunately being ripped off by scammers. Unfortunately we often find that codes have been provided that simply don't work and the phone is permanently locked.

How to avoid getting ripped off by online scams when unlocking online

These are some common scams / issues that we are aware of:

"The Unlock Report SCAM" Sites that advertise unlock codes but simply provide you with a "report" which tells you where you can buy one. Often hidden away in Terms and Conditions will be something along the lines of "Unlock codes are not necessarily included in the Unlock Report" which makes it hard for you to get a refund, even after complaining to your bank.

"Part-Time Unlockers" Avoid sites with no contact details and sites that only accept "Paypal" as these sites are often easily set up by individuals without the knowledge and expertise needed to provide correct unlock codes. These sites usually offer unlock codes at low prices and they do this by using out of date "code calculators" and not the genuine codes, therefore codes often don't work and may cause damage to your handset and loss of warranty. Always look for a full address and phone number when shopping online.

"Misinformation" We have seen some wild claims when browsing some sites:
Sites claiming they are the "source of unlock codes" - This simply cannot be true as the source of all unlock codes is the manufacturer of the handset.

Sites claiming that codes are instant 24/7 but may take longer at busy times - You can bet that the codes are processed manually and the delivery time will depend on when someone is working. Remember some of these sites are run by a single person who probably has a day job!

If the information on the site is suspect, do not trust the service.

"Contact Forms" Avoid sites that only show a Contact form and No Email address, Phone number or Postal Address - This means you simply don't know who you're dealing with. If the site is taken down, you will have no means of communication. We have seen an increasing number of sites pop up over night to only disappear a few days later and reappear with a new name because scammers are rotating the web site addresses they use for the sole purpose of losing unhappy customers who are demanding refunds
